Manali to Leh biking expedition is one of the most iconic cycling trips organized by White Peaks Adventures. The destination? A beautiful high altitude lake which will leave you completely stunned. Chandra Taal lake is situated in the Spiti part of Lahaul, Himachal pradesh. Situated at an altitude of about 4,300 metres (14,100 ft), the Himalayan Mountains overlook the lake on one side, and a magnificent cirque presents a view on the other. The name of the lake originates from its crescent shape whilst its blue waters will take your breath away. The journey takes you from the lush green lands of Kullu through the arid landscape of Spiti and Lahaul. Arriving by the merit of your own pedal power gives a whole other level of achievement. Manali to Chandra Taal cycling is a must do for anyone who is into cycling and looking for a short mountain biking tour.

Day 1: Report in Manali
Orientation and general information about the expedition. A Senior instructor will do the briefing and talks about rigours of the expedition and the safety measures that each one of us should keep in mind throughout this expedition. In the evening we will go for a short test ride fully loaded with all the gears provided.
Overnight in Guesthouse/Hotel,Manali
Day 2: Manali to Rohtang by car and onto Chota dara by bike
The tour starts from the famous Rohtang Pass. We pack our bags and load our essentials and bikes the on transit vehicle. After taking some photos we will commence our journey onto Gramphoo (3250m). From here we take a left diversion which will get us into the Spiti valley. Our offroad expedition starts from here, riding another 21 kms will get us to Chotta Dharra. One has to negotiate many hairpin bends to reach Chota Dhara. Chota Dhara offers picturesque camping sites and is a quiet place to stay for the night. We’ll be on the road for approx eight hours covering 50kms in total.

Day 3: Chota Dara to Chandra taal
As we start from Chota Dara we trace the course of the Chandra River to reach Batal which is around 20 km of undulating road, trying uphills and rocky flats. The testing climb begins from Batal diversion up to Chandratal: as challenging as its views are rewarding. It will take 3-4 hours to arrive at Chandra Taal Lake (12,000 ft). Camping is not allowed at the lake but a few kms before the lake there are good camping sites. One of the most surprising things about Chandra Taal Lake is that there are no visible source of this lake but there is a visible outlet of this lake which means that water to this lake comes from underground.

Day4: Chandertal to Chatru. (11,100ft ; 6 – 7hrs)Approx 43 kms
Today after breakfast at we drive down to Chatru (11,100ft) which is complete off road trail. Enjoy this downhill ride with your group taking few stops at the scenes you like. Ride at your leisure since this is an exciting yet easy ride in mountains. We’ll be on the road for approximately seven hours today, and covering 43 kms.
