Bhagirathi II Climbing Expedition (6512m.)

Comprised of three peaks, this White Peaks Adventure will focus on the second tallest of the trio, Bhagirathi II. At an altitude of 21,365 feet is also the most popular owing to its technical requirements without being too challenging. The peaks rise right above the source of mighty Ganges river, the Gangotri Glacier, and has spectacular views across the endless Garhwal range. The Gangotri glacier changes its nature quite with the changing seasons, opening virgin crevasses and setting new tasks for climbers, which means the route is always changing. With views of the famed Thalay Sagar, Shivling, and Meru Peaks trekkers are in good company, and many are inspired to start planning their next excursion. Every year climbers across the globe visit here in an attempt to climb its glorious peaks and Bhagirathi is a choice of experience adventure souls from all over the world.

Adventure Trek  Itinerary

Day 1: Delhi
Arrive Delhi. Today we will visit the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) for briefing and complete any required formalities. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Relax in your hotel or explore the many sights of Delhi: India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb, Lodhi Gardens, and many more.

Day 2:  Delhi to Rishikesh 6-7 hours
Make the seven-hour drive from Delhi to Rishikesh. Check in to your hotel, and spend the afternoon at your leisure exploring the holy town of Rishikesh. From Laxman Jhula and Shiva Mandir to the evening aarti and adrenaline activities. There is plenty to do in town.

Day 3:  Rishikesh to Uttarkashi
After an early breakfast, we will depart Rishikesh and make the picturesque drive to Uttarkashi (4436 feet), situated on the banks of Bhagirathi river. Today we will complete any local administration and Forest visiting the top mountaineering institute of India, the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, the mountaineering aficionado's dream, of climbers past and present.

Day 4: Uttarkashi to Gangotri
After early breakfast, we will depart Uttarkashi and take the beautiful six-hour drive to Gangotri (10,200 feet). If time allows we may stop and Gangnani where we have a holy dip in the famous hot springs. This will be our greatest climb today, so it is essential not to exert yourself too much so as to properly acclimatize to the altitude.

Day 5:   Gangotri - Bhojbasa 
Today we will continue our ascent, gaining a further 2000 feet, from Gangotri to Bhojbasa (12,450 feet). After a small puja, we will begin on foot to Bhojbasa. From here, you will get your first glimpse of the Bhagirathi Peaks.

Day 6 and 7:  Bhojbasa - Gaumukh - Nandanvan
On Day 6 we will reach the base camp of the expedition, Nandanvan (14,638 feet). Firstly, we will set up camp and begin briefing and safety techniques.During our stay in Base Camp, we will study the local weather forecast and the gradient of the route, based on this we plan our further days of the expedition. Equipment distribution, route planning, team planning (advance team + backup team) revising technical skills, studying tricky passes, and making plans to tackle them. The most fundamental days at the base camp, we build a strong relationship with the team with good understanding which is essential for upcoming days.
Today you will practise:

  • Self-arrest technique
  • Using fix ropes 
  • Fixing and De-fixing of carabiners
  • Walking with crampons - front pointing and flat footing (35 degrees to 55 degrees)
  • Knot practising
  • Ascending and descending techniques
  • Basic self-rescue techniques
  • Handling common accidents
  • Handling Ice axe 

Overnight at camp, Nandanvan

Day 8: Base Camp
Load ferry to the Advance Base Camp and return to base camp.

Day 9:  Base Camp to Advance Base Camp
Today we will depart Base Camp and setup up Advance Base Camp (15,750 feet) for the following day.
Overnight stay at ABC.

Day 10:  Rest day at ABC
Another rest day today for acclimatization, Go for a short height-gain and return to ABC for the overnight stay.
Overnight stay at Advance Base Camp.

Day 11: Camp 1 and back
Today we will load the ferry (17,060 feet) to Camp 1 before returning to ABC.

Day 12: Setting Up CAMP 1
This morning we will leave ABC and climb up to CAMP 1, where we will set up camp for the evening and next day.

Day 13: Camp 2 return to Camp 1 
Load the ferry for Camp 2, before returning to Camp 1 for the evening. Overnight Stay at Camp 1

Day 14:  Camp 1 to Camp 2
Wake up early and prepare for your onwards climb to Camp 2, where we will rest and prepare the camp for the rest of the day.

Day 15:  Summit Camp and return to Camp 2
Load the ferry from Camp 2 to Summit Camp, before returning to Camp 2.

Day 16:  Summit Camp 
Today we will prepare our Summit Camp (19,685 feet). Today we will also open the route fix ropes for the Summit.

Day 17:  The Summit Day - 6512m
Wake up at 2 am, for today is our first summit attempt day (21,364 feet). On the successful attempt, we will return to camp. 
    Overnight at Summit Camp. 

Day 18:  Reserve day for Summit.

Day 19:  Reserve day for Summit.

Day 20: Summit Camp to  Advance Base Camp. 

Having successfully completed our Summit, we will begin our descent. 
    Overnight Stay at ABC

Day 21:  Advance Base Camp to Base Camp.
    Overnight Stay at Nandanvan Base Camp

Day 22: Base Camp
Spend the day resting and recuperating at Base Camp.

Day 23:   Base Camp to Bhojbasa
Back the way we came, returning from Nandanvan to Bhojbasa
    Overnight at camp, Bhojbasa 

Day 24:  Bhojbasa to Gangotri
Bid your goodbyes to the Bhagirathi Peaks, before continuing you further descent. 
    Overnight at camp, Gangotri 

Day 25:  Gangotri to Uttarkashi
From today onwards we will travel by road from Gangotri to Uttarkashi. Soak in the scenic views on the six-hour drive, a much less exertive way to travel.

Day 26:  Uttarkashi to Delhi
The final leg of our journey, travel the long overnight journey by bus, from Uttarkashi to Delhi.

Day 27:  Onwards travel 
After completing any final formalities at the IMF our group will disperse and continue with their onward travel.
