Standing tall at an altitude of 5964m above sea level Kanamo Peak is located above Kibber and Ki gompa, and is considered a sacred mountain. Ka means white or auspicious and Namo means “hostess” or “lady”, so Kanamo is famously known as the “white hostess”. This unique trek is one of the few where you see vegetation, rare in Spiti Valley. The villages on the Kaza to Kibber stretch are famous for growing sweet green peas and the lush green patches of pea fields amidst the mountain desert is a sight to behold.
The Kanamo Peak trek demands a good level of fitness and a few high-altitude treks to the trekker’s credits. The region of Kaza is pristine and has its fair share of wildlife ranging from Blue sheep to Himalayan to Tibetan wolves and the elusive Snow leopard.

Day 4: Kibber to Kanamo Base camp
Approaching 15,748 ft we will cover approximately 5km within six to seven hours. It’s a moderately difficult level climb with a continuous ascent for the first 4 hours after which, the path evens out. Ending with another gradual ascent the end is the most picturesque part of the day.

Day 5: Kanamo summit
Continuous ascent to the peak, with the last 4 hours of climbing on a steep incline completely on scree. 2.5-3 hours of descent to return.
Wake up early for today is summit day (19,553 ft) and it’s going to be a long one: almost thirteen hours. The view from the top is breathtaking from every angle. One can see the Parang La pass leading to Ladakh, Pin Parvati pass leading to Kullu valley, ranges of Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti from the summit. Kanamo is in fact a twin peak with its sister peak,
