Mount-Leo-Purgyal-Peak-6791m

Mt.Leo Purgyal  (6791m.)

Conjuring memories of the unexplored and inaccessible valley of the Hindustan-Tibet Road and the gorge of the River Satluj, The Kinnaur is one of the Himalayas great peaks. Historic and literary greats have journeyed along its roads, most famously perhaps, Rudyard Kipling’s ‘Kim’, but it was Marco Pallis, who in 1933 successfully reached the Mount Leo Purgyal summit, opened the door to climbing. Formerly the haunts of holy men and more recently military men, today Kinnaur is open to everybody and is a favoured route amid serious mountaineers. The highest peak in Himachal Pradesh, it is among the largest single rock-faces in the world. You may see Reo Purgyal has written in all manner of different ways: Reo Pargial, Reo Pargil or Reo Purgyil or even Reo Purgyil and Reo Purgyal - but rest assured it is the same climb!
