Day 2:   Manali to Chikka

Today we travel from Manali to Khanool (2700 m) by road before continuing on foot to Chikka (3200 m) for the next two hours. The view opens up at Chikka which provides one of the best camping site with great views of Nag Mandir.

Day 3: Chikka to Seri
Today our trek follows the Jagatsukh river through thick forests giving way to boulders and carpets of wild flowers. As we progress you’ll notice the changing scenery from trees to meadow in Seri (3600 m), which used to be a glacial lake. The camping site has streams running along with the Tainta waterfall in the backdrop.

Overnight at camp, Seri

Day 4:   Seri to Tenta
Today starts with an easy walk across a stretch of meadow passing a stream which feeds the Jagatsukh Nala. The stream crossing is followed by a steep climb through the boulders and leads to the moraines field. Here we will catch our first glimpse of Deo Tibba, which was hidden till now. Today we will get ample time to relax and acclimatize ourselves for the next day. Overnight stay in the camps.

Overnight at Base camp, Tenta

Day 5:    Rest day and preparations.
Having arrived at base camp we will set up camp and begin briefing and safety techniques. During our stay in Base Camp we will study the local weather forecast and the gradient of the route, based on this we plan our further days of the expedition. Equipment distribution, route planning, team planning (advance + backup team) revising technical skills, studying tricky passes of the expedition and making plans to tackle them. Today you will practice:

  • Self-arrest technique
  • Using fix ropes
  • Fixing and defixing of carabiners
  • Walking with crampons - front pointing and flat footing (35 degrees to 55 degrees)
  • Knot practicing
  • Ascending and descending techniques
  • Basic self-rescue techniques
  • Handling common accidents
  • Handling Ice axe

We’ll do an extensive live practice session near the surrounding glacier or some technical spot as suggested by the technical team of White Peaks Adventures.

Overnight at Base camp, Tenta

Day 6: Load ferry to Advance base camp

This morning we will load ferry to ABC from where we will carry only our essentials. Our technical guide will analyse the route and environment. Arriving at ABC we will partially set up our camp, before returning to base camp. This journey will also help with acclimatization.

Overnight at camp, Tenta

Day 7: Base camp to Advance base camp

Our journey begins early today, as we begin our ascent towards Mt Deo Tibba. Our team size reduces from this day and things will get a bit more technical as we move forward as a team. We leave behind low altitude porters and our big comfortable dining tents and carrying only essential things with us.

Overnight stay at ABC.

Day 8:    Occupy Duhangan Col camp

Summit Camp is relatively at a higher altitude for Mt Tibba, hence we setup up our Camp 1 at Taintu Pass in order to setup up our Summit Camp comfortably.

Overnight stay at Camp,Taintu Pass

Day 9:   Duhangan Col to Summit camp
It’s always exciting to reach Summit Camp (18,000 feet) and thankfully it’s not a very long hike today so that we can arrive at summit camp with plenty of time to set up before lunch and get an early dinner and bedtime.

Overnight at summit camp

Day 10:    Summit day
Wake up just after midnight. Our day begins with a refreshing cup of tea before we begin our summit attempt to Mt Deo Tibba Peak (19,688 feet). At night the snow is hard enough to walk at a reasonable pace and without that extra care. It’s going to be a gradual steep climb to reach the summit and we’ll be on foot for between 7 to 8 hours. Once we’re at the top we’ll celebrate with some photos, before returning the way we cam, ensuring not to spend too much time at this high altitude. Enjoy this evening at leisure and revel in the comradery with your fellow campmates.

Overnight at summit camp

Day 11:    Reserve day for Summit.
Today is a reserve day for our summit. If we were successful on the previous day, we will begin our descent.

Day 12:    Summit Camp to Camp 1 (Duhangan col)

From here we will continue with our onwards descent.

Day 13:    Camp 1 to Base Camp

Day 14:    Base camp to Chikka

Day 15:    Chikka to Manali
