Baralacha La Pass is a high altitude mountain pass at an elevation of 4,890 m connecting the Lahul district of Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir. Often visited on road trips from Manali to Leh Baralacha Pass is a moderate level trekking destination which also covers the glorious lake of ChanderTal. Another highlight of the Itinerary. The route passes across few high altitude trails and glacier rivers of the region which finally leads to Baralacha Pass. The region is rich in flora and fauna and ideal for wildlife, as well as adventure, enthusiasts.

Day 1 : Reporting at Naggar Nature Base Camp, Manali( 6200 ft).
Naggar is an ancient village just outside of Manali. Relax at our camp and become acclimatised to the altitude. This day you will prepare for your trek with some light walking. You’ll have enough time to explore the market and surrounding areas.

Day 2: MANALI – ROHTANG PASS(13052 Ft.) – BATAL(4000m)
Following breakfast we will move to the Batal (Spiti Valley) by road, approximately 8 hours. Leaving Chota Dara behind we continue along the right bank of Chandra River. Excellent views of Bara Shigri glacier can be spotted on our left side, as well as views of the White Sail, Shigri Parbat, and Kullu Makalu peaks.

Day 3: TREK TO KUNZOM LA (4551m) 2 hr, TREK TO CHANDRATAL (4270m), 4-5 hrs.
Crossing bridge soon after Batal, we climb towards Kunzom la following small stream. Here we will steal a glimpse of Spiti valley, which runs 170 kms towards south. The route is a mix of green meadows and patches of scree. It is also used for shepherd’s grazing their sheep, and small stone huts used by the shepherd’s pepper the landscape. After a long stretch of stony ground and small stream arrive at the lake. Across Chandra river most fascinating sight of Samudra Tapu glacier, North Dakka glacier, South Dakka glacier and Silver glacier. Above are the towering peaks of Moulkila and C.B. peaks. Leaving Kunzom we trek to Chandratal offering panoramic view of Chandra Bhaga peaks.

Day 4: CHANDRATAL – TOKPO YONGMA (4’400m) 7 hrs.
A long day today, between 14 to 16 km, but well worth the effort. The trail starts with a series of ups and downs through steep ravines and boulders. Snow cocks can be heard, and even spotted if you are lucky. After three hours the trail winds down a knoll, entering a steep precipice to the river down below. We’ll be crossing the stream if the water is low enough of we’ll find Snow Bridge closer to the source.

DAY 5: TOKPO YONGMA – TOKPO GONGMA (4,700m) 6/7 hrs.
Wake up early as we’ll have to cross the stream whilst the water is lower, earlier in the day. A short walk from here, the valley opens up onto a broad plateau where we will set up camp for the evening.

DAY 6: TOKPO GONGMA – BARALACHA LA (4’890m), Trek 4/5 hrs.
Today early departure from camp towards Baralacha la pass, which is 7 km long, gives the source of three rivers - Chandra through South, Bhaga through upper Lahoul and Yunam towards Zanskar. A splendid view of M-4, which is the highest in the Moulkila range, can be seen from the trail as well as of Keorang range of Great Himalayas. On the pass, join the main highway. We will be pick up by our vehicle here and drive to Manali.
