Kang La Pass (5900 metres) is one of the most difficult and famous Himalayan passes that the experienced trekkers always aim to trek on. Trekking is extremely difficult here, but you will cherish the experience for a lifetime.  Discover an interior route into a little explored area beginning from Manali to Lahaul Valley and onwards to Mayar Valley. Extremely beautiful and full of wildlife and streams. The local culture, architecture, lifestyle are influenced by Hinduism and Buddhism. The Mayar Valley which is a lush green is a boundary line to Zanskar valley, an ideal place to learn more about Himalayan flora and fauna. Witness flowers, peaks, glaciers, rivers, village life and watch grazing yaks, musk deer, Ibexes, and much more. The Kang-la Pass is a magnificent trek.

Adventure Trek Itinerary

Day 01: Manali to Urgus
Drive from Manali to Urgus via the Rohtang Pass (3987m), Sissu waterfall, Tandi confluence point, Trilokinath and Urgus (3700m). This journey will take approximately 10 hours.

Day 02: Urgus to Khanjer (3900m). 8 hours walk.
Urgos is a charming village in the heartland of Lahaul. An easy eight-hour trail will take us to Khanier our camp for the evening.

Day 03: Khanjer to Than
From Khanjar village, which is comprised of only five houses with a small shop and a school, the trail from Khanjer to Thanpattan is relatively easy. After seven hours trekking we will reach Than Pattan (4200m).

Day 04: Than Patten to Morein Base Camp
Having arrived at base camp we will set up camp and begin briefing and safety techniques. During our stay in Base Camp (4700 m) we will study the local weather forecast and the gradient of the route, based on this we plan our further days of the expedition. Equipment distribution, route planning, team planning (advance +backup team) revising
technical skills, studying tricky passes of the expedition and making plans to tackle them. Today you will brush up our mountaineering techniques.

Spend the day at your leisure preparing for tomorrow’s climb.

Day 06: Morein Base Camp to Base Camp of Miyar Glacier
Today we will prepare for our ascent to Kang La Base Camp (4200 m).

Day 07: Base Camp of Miyar Glacier to Base Camp of Kang La
Another challenging and exciting day Today we cross the Miyar Glacier (4600m). Crevassed in several parts, we need to cross this as a team whilst properly understanding the guidelines from the trek guide.

Day 08:  Base Camp of Kang La to the other base of the Kang- la pass via Kangla Pass
Wake up early to cross the Kang La Pass - the Heart of Zanskar Valley of Jammu and Kashmir. This route is also commonly used by the locals to cross the Zanskar Valley. There are two base camps of Kang La pass (5900 m) one at each side of the valley. It starts with a challenging ascent to Kang La Pass followed by a moderate descent to the other side.

Day 09: Base of the pass to Bardang Gompa
The 17th century Bardang Gompa is located on a sheer hilltop rising above the Lungnak River, a tributary of the Zanskar. If time allows we will have a visit to the well preserved ancient Bargand Gompa.

Day 10: Bardang Gompa to Padum
This three-hour walk is the last stretch on the (almost) motorable road to Padum

Day 11: Padum to Kargil
Today we will be giving our feet a rest and travelling by road to Kargil. The drive will take approximately 5-6 hours.

Day 12: Kargil to Leh
A scenic drive with a stopover via Lamayuru monastery. By road it takes approximately 10 hours.
